Volunteers, Sponsors Needed for Mulberry Fork Race

One race down and two to go. The Alabama Cup Races are under way! Sponsors and volunteers are needed to help ensure the races are a success.

The Alabama Cup is made up of three canoe and kayak races: the Locust Fork Invitational, the Mulberry Fork Canoe and Kayak Races, and the Locust Fork Whitewater Classic. The races are managed and promoted by the Alabama Cup Racing Association (ARCA). Each race is hosted by a committee representing state paddling organizations, conservation groups, paddlers and volunteers. ACRA and host organizations for all three races are non-profit groups. UAB Shepard bend Protest

Black Warrior River Keeper hosted a protest on UAB’s Campus today against the Shepard bend mine on the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior river. Specifically they protested against the UA (UA,UAB, UAH) system selling land to the project that would greatly expand the mine and potential waste water being dumped into the river which is a direct source for birmingham drinking water and our recreation.

The protest went on in front of the Alys Stephens Center for the Arts. We are happy to support Black Warrior River Keeper in their efforts to stop this project from moving forward.
