Sipsey Fork River, April 14. Trip is weather and water level dependent. The Sipsey can drop too low to paddle in April. Final decision won’t be made until the week of the trip. If the water is too low, we will do a hike in the region for those interested.
This is a beautiful river running past high bluffs with waterfalls in NW Alabama. One easy rapid and a few small shoals. Mostly moving flat water. Suitable for rec kayaks and tandem canoes.
It’s a long trip, about 9 miles. Plan on a full day. Meet at 6:30 am at the MacDonald’s on Highway 78 in Adamsville to convoy there or at 9:30 at the put-in, the Sipsey Recreation Area on County Road 6, north of Double Springs.
